Chicago Cubs Interested in Closer Jyun-Yue Tseng for Minor League Contract
The Chicago Cubs have shown interest in signing Taiwanese closer Jyun-Yue Tseng to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training, as reported from Taiwan.
Vincent Liao, a columnist, indicated that the Cubs reached out to the 24-year-old right-hander, who has been a standout player for the Fubon Guardians in Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Tseng has excelled as a closer, recording a 1.57 ERA in 2026 with 25 saves and a strikeout rate of 32.7 percent.
Tseng has a career ERA of 2.23 over approximately 291 innings in the CPBL and has also represented Chinese Taipei internationally, notably closing a game against South Korea in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. His decision to pursue international free agency this offseason opens opportunities for MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball teams. The Cubs' interest in Tseng reflects a strategy to enhance their bullpen while potentially establishing connections with Taiwanese talent.
