Chicago Cubs Release Veteran Pitcher Jake Woodford

The Chicago Cubs recently designated pitcher Jake Woodford for assignment during their series against the Kansas City Royals, marking the end of his brief tenure with the team.

Woodford, a right-hander who has played parts of seven seasons in Major League Baseball, appeared in only two games for the Cubs this season after previously pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers. He recorded a total of 26⅓ innings with a 7.18 earned-run average, which contributed to the team's decision to make roster changes.

This move coincided with the activation of new acquisitions Tyrone Taylor and Ryan Zeferjahn, aimed at enhancing the team's outfield and bullpen. Additionally, outfielder Kevin Alcántara was optioned to the minors. Woodford, who was selected in the first round of the 2015 draft, has played for multiple teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks, and now faces uncertainty regarding his future in the league.
