Chicago Cubs Update on Matt Shaw's Rehab Assignment
The Chicago Cubs are navigating August without Matt Shaw in their major league roster, but they are not viewing his absence as a temporary situation.
On Tuesday, while the Cubs prepared for their second game against Arizona in Phoenix, Shaw was set to play left field for Triple-A Iowa. This marks his first time in that position during his rehab, following a period focused on recovering from a sprained left hand sustained on June 28.
Shaw's injury led to his placement on the injured list, marking his second stint this season after dealing with a mid-back issue. Prior to his hand injury, he had been performing well, hitting .246 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 56 games. The Cubs sent him to Iowa on August 19, and the shift to left field may indicate a strategic consideration for the team as they assess their roster for the future.
