Chiefs Place LT Josh Simmons on Injured Reserve Due to Back Injury
Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons will be placed on injured reserve due to a back injury that has kept him off the field throughout the season.
The announcement was made by Rick Burkholder, the team's vice president of sports medicine and performance. He noted that Simmons had made some progress in his rehabilitation, returning to practice in a limited capacity last week. However, Burkholder indicated that Simmons had reached a plateau in his recovery and was not yet ready to compete.
Simmons initially reported calf discomfort in mid-August, which was later linked to a bulging disc in his lower back, complicating his recovery. He is not scheduled for surgery, and the IR placement is intended to allow him additional time to rehabilitate. Undrafted rookie Kahliil Benson has been starting at left tackle for the Chiefs this season.
