Chiefs to Start Undrafted Rookie Khalil Benson at Left Tackle for Season Opener

Khalil Benson, an undrafted rookie, is set to start at left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs in their season opener against the Denver Broncos. This decision comes as Patrick Mahomes returns from a torn ACL, and the team’s first-round pick, Josh Simmons, has been ruled out due to a lower back injury.

Benson, who previously played at Indiana, will be the first undrafted rookie to start in an Andy Reid-led offense. Although he primarily practiced at right tackle during training camp, he will switch to the left side to protect Mahomes. Jaylon Moore will take over the right tackle position.
