China Calls for Restraint and Dialogue Between Iran and the U.S.

On September 16, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Beijing, where he encouraged both Iran and the U.S. to remain rational and exercise restraint. Wang emphasized the importance of returning to the Islamabad memorandum and engaging in substantive consultations.

Wang urged all parties to take effective measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the stability of international energy transport and supply chains. He expressed China's desire to prevent regional tensions from escalating into Yemen and the Red Sea.

This meeting precedes an anticipated discussion between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran and China's financial ties to Tehran. Wang noted that the current security architecture in the Middle East is inadequate and requires reform, reaffirming China's commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
