Chris Sale Ejected Before Braves-Yankees Game

Atlanta Braves pitcher Chris Sale was ejected before the game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on August 9, despite not being slated to pitch.

The ejection occurred just before the start of the Braves' eventual 2-1 victory in 10 innings. Third-base umpire Dan Merzel had previously spoken with Sale in the dugout, but moments later, he ejected Sale as he and the other umpires were entering the field.

The reason for the ejection was not immediately clear, but it seemed to be connected to a previous incident during Saturday's game where Sale was charged with a balk by Merzel, allowing Yankees' player Spencer Jones to score. Following that call, both Sale and Braves manager Walt Weiss had a prolonged argument with Merzel, which resulted in Weiss being ejected.
