Christian Gloeckler Achieves Second Grandmaster Norm at Fagernes Tournament
Christian Gloeckler, a 14-year-old chess player from Germany, achieved his second grandmaster norm at the International Autumn Tournament held in Fagernes, Norway. The tournament took place from October 3 to October 11, featuring 62 players competing over ten rounds.
Gloeckler started strong, winning three games and drawing against Rinat Jumabayev, the eventual tournament winner. He maintained his lead with six points after seven rounds. Although he lost his final two games, including a match against Indian grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran, he had already met the requirements for his second norm by drawing against Swedish grandmaster Vitaly Sivuk in round eight.
In the final standings, Gloeckler finished with 6½ points, tied with several players but ranked lower due to performance scores. Jumabayev won the tournament, remaining unbeaten with 7½ points. Gloeckler's performance also earned him an increase of 8 Elo rating points, following his first GM norm achieved in July.
