This new deal sets the average annual value (APY) at $33 million, prompting Christian Gonzalez to aim for a contract that surpasses this figure. Both players are represented by the same agency, with Gonzalez expected to follow Witherspoon's lead.

Gonzalez has been sidelined from practice due to an injury, but Patriots coach Mike Vrabel confirmed that the team and player are aligned regarding his contract situation. The Patriots had previously indicated they were willing to offer Gonzalez a deal that would make him the highest-paid cornerback in the league, a target that has now shifted following Witherspoon's contract.
