Christian Horner Discusses His Sudden Departure from Red Bull Racing
Christian Horner has characterized his recent departure from Red Bull Racing as abrupt and brutal. He was removed from his position as CEO and team principal in July 2025 after two decades with the team, with Laurent Mekies taking over his role.
Speaking at the Autosport Business Exchange in New York, Horner shared insights about his career in Formula 1 and the changes at Red Bull following the death of founder Dietrich Mateschitz in late 2022. He noted that the company's evolution was inevitable and that the shift in control dynamics affected the autonomy previously enjoyed by the racing team.
During his tenure, Horner oversaw the careers of several prominent drivers, including Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, leading the team to multiple championships. He expressed pride in his accomplishments at Red Bull and appreciation for the talented individuals he worked alongside.
