Christian Horner Opens Up About Panic Attacks During F1 Career
Christian Horner, the former Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, has revealed his experiences with panic attacks and anxiety caused by the intense pressures of Formula 1. In a recent interview, he shared how the stress of managing a championship-winning team led to significant physiological distress over his two-decade career.
Initially, Horner mistook his panic attacks for symptoms of fatigue or excessive caffeine consumption. However, after seeking medical advice, he learned that the underlying issue was psychological rather than physical. Doctors informed him that he was experiencing anxiety, which manifested in shallow breathing and other alarming symptoms.
Following his unexpected departure from Red Bull in July 2025, Horner faced an identity crisis that further compounded his psychological challenges. He acknowledged the impact of losing his professional role and reflected on the importance of mental health, drawing inspiration from fellow team principal Toto Wolff's openness about his own struggles. Despite stepping away from the sport, Horner has found time to reconnect with family and still holds a deep passion for Formula 1, though he does not miss the associated travel and politics.
