Christopher Bell Wins Southern 500, Ending Winless Streak
Christopher Bell achieved his first victory of the season at the Southern 500 held at Darlington Raceway, breaking a winless streak that extended over 33 races. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver overtook defending NASCAR champion Kyle Larson with 18 laps remaining in the race.
This win marked Bell's first at Darlington in 15 Cup races and elevated him to second place in the Chase standings, trailing only teammate Denny Hamlin. Bell expressed his excitement about the victory, emphasizing the significance of the event.
Larson had taken a gamble by staying on the track during the final caution while other drivers, including Bell, opted for fresh tires. Although Larson initially gained a lead, Bell quickly closed the gap and ultimately passed him. Other Chase competitors faced challenges, including Hamlin, who suffered damage after a collision and finished 18th. The next race in the Chase will take place at World Wide Technology Raceway.
