Christopher Morel Returns to MLB with New York Mets
Christopher Morel, once a promising player for the Chicago Cubs, has been selected by the New York Mets from Triple-A Syracuse, marking his return to Major League Baseball.
Morel, who signed with the Cubs in 2015, made his MLB debut in 2022, showcasing his power with 42 home runs over 854 plate appearances. His 2023 season was particularly notable, with 26 homers and 70 RBIs in 107 games, including a record-setting start where he hit nine home runs in his first 12 games.
Despite his power, Morel struggled with on-base skills and contact rates, leading to his trade to Tampa Bay in 2024 and a brief, unproductive period with the Miami Marlins. After signing a minor-league deal with the Mets, he excelled in Syracuse, posting a .321 batting average and a .716 slugging percentage with 12 home runs in just 31 games. The Mets aim to utilize Morel's versatility and power as they navigate the remainder of the season.
