CIA Director John Ratcliffe Engages with Russian Intelligence in Moscow
On August 26, U.S. CIA Director John Ratcliffe conducted discussions with Russian intelligence officials in Moscow, although he did not have a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, as confirmed by the Kremlin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin was informed about the outcomes of Ratcliffe's discussions. This meeting occurred amid escalating tensions due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and stalled negotiations for a peace deal between the U.S. and Iran.
Peskov refrained from sharing specific details about the discussions but noted that contacts between the intelligence agencies of the two nations are seen as a positive development, even during challenging times in U.S.-Russia relations. He emphasized that it is premature to determine the impact of such contacts on improving the current strained bilateral relations.
