Cincinnati Reds Place Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl on Waivers
The Cincinnati Reds have placed designated hitter and third baseman Eugenio Suárez, along with center fielder TJ Friedl, on outright waivers, as reported on Thursday morning.
Both players could remain with the team if they go unclaimed within 48 hours. Suárez is currently in a one-year, $15 million contract, while Friedl is under team control until 2028. Suárez has approximately $3 million remaining for the season, and Friedl is owed about $700,000. The Reds are reportedly unlikely to extend a contract offer to Friedl for the next season.
Suárez, a two-time All-Star, has had a challenging season with 19 home runs and a .208 batting average over 410 plate appearances. Friedl, in his sixth season with the Reds, has struggled significantly, recording career lows in several offensive categories. The Reds currently hold a 63-71 record, placing them last in the National League Central.
