C.J. Stroud and Texans Delay Contract Extension Talks Until 2027

The Houston Texans and quarterback C.J. Stroud have agreed to delay negotiations for a contract extension until after the 2026 season. This decision follows attempts to finalize a deal before the start of the regular season.

Stroud is currently in the final year of his four-year, $36.28 million rookie contract, with the Texans having exercised his $25.9 million fully guaranteed fifth-year option for 2027. Texans general manager Nick Caserio indicated that discussions would pause once the regular season commenced.

Stroud has expressed a desire to remain with the Texans long-term. However, the evolving quarterback market and his performance this season may influence future negotiations. With a rising salary cap and other quarterbacks eligible for extensions, including notable names entering the market, the average contract values could see significant increases next offseason.
