Claudio Castagnoli Names Arena Mexico as Favorite Wrestling Venue
Claudio Castagnoli, a prominent figure in both AEW and CMLL, has named Arena Mexico as his favorite wrestling venue during an appearance on a podcast. He described the venue as 'the cathedral' of wrestling.
Castagnoli, who received lucha libre training early in his career, had aspired to perform at Arena Mexico and finally made his debut there in March 2024. Since then, he has participated in major CMLL events, winning the 2024 CMLL International Gran Prix and the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in late 2025.
After his title reign, Castagnoli signed a dual contract with AEW and CMLL in March and successfully defended his championship six times before losing it to fellow wrestler Hechicero. His most recent match at Arena Mexico was during the 2026 International Gran Prix, where he reached the final two but was again defeated by Hechicero. Recently, Castagnoli also competed at AEW All In in London, participating in a championship match.
