Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney's Buyout Details Revealed

Dabo Swinney, the head coach of Clemson, is facing scrutiny after a disappointing 2025 season, where his team finished with a 7-6 record, the worst since 2010. As he prepares for the 2026 season opener against No. 11 LSU, discussions about his job security have emerged.

Swinney, who is in the fifth year of a 10-year, $115 million contract signed in September 2022, earned $11.5 million in 2025, making him the highest-paid coach in the ACC. If Clemson decides to terminate his contract without cause, the buyout amount would be $57 million, reduced from $60 million the previous year, and this figure will remain until the end of his contract in 2031.

If Swinney were to leave Clemson for another program, he would owe the university varying amounts depending on the year, starting at $3 million in 2026 or 2027. Additionally, a clause related to Alabama would require him to pay 150% more if he left for that specific program.
