Cleveland Browns' Quarterback Decision Looms as Shedeur Sanders Impresses
As the Cleveland Browns prepare for their preseason opener, head coach Todd Monken is likely to announce veteran Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback over second-year player Shedeur Sanders. Reports from early August indicate that this decision is imminent.
In a recent update, Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot noted that Sanders has outperformed Watson in terms of pass completion and explosive plays during the first week of training camp. However, Watson has demonstrated better overall management of the offense, despite struggling with interceptions, having thrown seven in the first eight practices.
Monken is expected to make the starting quarterback announcement before the preseason game against the Chicago Bears on August 15. While it remains unclear if the competition will continue through the final preseason game against the New England Patriots on August 27, the decision will hinge on Sanders' ability to adapt quickly and Watson's consistency with his recovery from injury.
