Cleveland Browns Rookie Dae’Quan Wright Enters NCAA Transfer Portal Amid Controversy
Dae’Quan Wright, a rookie tight end for the Cleveland Browns, has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal. This decision comes after a controversial court ruling that has opened the possibility for him to return to college football despite being under an active NFL contract.
The NCAA recently altered its eligibility rules, allowing athletes to play for five seasons within a five-year timeframe. However, a Louisiana judge issued a temporary restraining order against these new rules, enabling Wright and others to pursue a fifth year of eligibility while a lawsuit is ongoing.
Wright previously played at Virginia Tech and Ole Miss, where he achieved notable success, including second-team All-SEC honors. Despite being undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before joining the Browns. The future of his college career remains uncertain, particularly regarding a potential return to Ole Miss, as the head coach has indicated limited options for adding new players.
