Cliftonville Stripped of Women's League Cup Title Due to Ineligible Players
Cliftonville has been stripped of its 2026 Women's League Cup title after fielding two players who were not eligible during the final against Glentoran, which took place in July at Seaview.
The Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) confirmed that Glentoran, the losing finalists, lodged a complaint following their 4-0 defeat. As a result, the NIFL's competitions committee awarded Glentoran a 3-0 victory.
The NIFL expressed appreciation for Cliftonville's cooperation during the investigation. Cliftonville had celebrated what they believed was their fourth consecutive title, with key contributions from players including Caitlin McGuinness, who scored twice in the final.
Cliftonville and Glentoran are set to face each other again in the Women's Irish Cup final on October 24, with Cliftonville currently leading the league by nine points.
