Closure of Southport Aviary Sparks Controversy

In response to the closure, Southport MP Patrick Hurley has advocated for the aviary's continued operation, emphasizing its positive impact on community mental health. He expressed concerns that closing the facility could lead to broader issues in adult social care and mental health services.

Council leader Marion Atkinson has defended the closure, stating that the aviary is no longer suitable for the animals, a sentiment echoed by animal welfare organizations.
