Club Ajedrez Solvay Wins 2026 Spanish Primera División
Club Ajedrez Solvay has been declared the champion of the 2026 Spanish Primera División after completing the tournament in Linares with a flawless record. The team won all seven of their matches, ensuring their promotion to the División de Honor alongside the second-place team, Andreu Paterna.
The competition took place from August 27 to September 2 at the Hotel RL Aníbal, featuring eight clubs in a single round-robin format. Each match was played on six boards, with teams required to include at least one woman and three players eligible to represent Spain. The top two teams advanced to the División de Honor for 2027, while the bottom two were relegated to Segunda División.
Solvay's victories included three matches won by a narrow margin of 3½-2½ against Gros Xake Taldea, Granada, and Andreu Paterna. Vasyl Ivanchuk led the team on board one, achieving a score of 5/7 and a performance rating of 2634. His efforts contributed to Solvay's success, which comes a year after the club's relegation from the División de Honor.
