Clubs Honor Hyron Andrews Following His Passing
Lions and Sale Sharks honored Hyron Andrews during their matches on Saturday, following the South African lock's death at the age of 31.
Andrews passed away at the Lions' team hotel on Friday, just before their Champions Cup game against La Rochelle in France. The Lions chose to play the match in his memory, ultimately losing 31-14. Head coach Ivan van Rooyen emphasized the importance of celebrating Andrews' life and showing respect to his family.
Before the match, a minute's silence was observed, during which players from both teams wore black armbands. La Rochelle supporters applauded as the Lions entered the field, and Andrews' jersey was displayed on the turf. Pre-match tributes were also held at Sale, where director of rugby Alex Sanderson noted the team's unity in the face of tragedy, highlighting Andrews' impact both on and off the field.
