Coach Defends Ian Machado Garry Amid Criticism

Diego Lima, the coach of Ian Machado Garry, has addressed the criticism directed at Garry for his friendly interactions with Islam Makhachev during their UFC 330 title fight.

Lima stated that he did not perceive the hugs exchanged between Garry and Makhachev as having any impact on the fight's outcome. He noted that such gestures are common in the sport, referencing Charles Oliveira's similar behavior. Despite Garry's loss by unanimous decision, which included being knocked down in the second round, Lima emphasized Garry's respectful nature and his right to greet opponents.

Following the fight, Garry expressed interest in a title eliminator against Michael Morales, although Carlos Prates is anticipated to be the next contender for Makhachev, who aims to return before Ramadan in early 2027.
