Cody Weightman Reflects on Football Journey and Future Plans
Cody Weightman, a small forward for the Western Bulldogs, confronted fears about his football career after a series of injuries threatened to end it prematurely. Despite initially aiming to play just one game in 2026, he made 11 appearances, marking his return in Round 13 against Hawthorn and scoring seven goals throughout the season, including two in the Wildcard Final against Collingwood.
Weightman shared that his time away from the game has given him a renewed appreciation for playing, emphasizing the importance of enjoying every moment on the field. His injuries, which affected his knee, elbow, and shoulder, led him to establish an art business called Project Cody, preparing for life after football.
In his absence during 2026, teammate Arthur Jones excelled, scoring 27 goals in 20 games. Weightman expressed pride in mentoring Jones and looks forward to contributing to the Bulldogs' forward line alongside him and other players in the upcoming season.
