Cole Carrigg Benched After Gesture to Braves Fans, Returns as Pinch Hitter
Colorado Rockies rookie outfielder Cole Carrigg was benched for a couple of days following an incident during Saturday's game against the Atlanta Braves, where he was seen giving a middle finger to fans. This occurred during the eighth inning of the Rockies' 2-1 loss at Truist Park.
The incident took place after Carrigg missed a catch that allowed two runs to score, leading to his frustration. He later expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging that it was inexcusable and apologizing to his teammates and the organization.
On Sunday, Carrigg was used as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of the game, where he struck out. Despite the earlier incident, he has been a valuable player for the Rockies, batting .263 with six home runs and eight stolen bases this season. Manager Warren Schaeffer noted that while Carrigg made a mistake, it is important for him to learn from it.
