He pointed out that the team managed to win nine games last season despite facing a challenging schedule and numerous injuries. Cowherd expressed confidence in the Lions' roster, citing key players such as Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon Ra St. Brown, and praised their offensive line, particularly Penei Sewell.

In addition to the Lions, Cowherd acknowledged the Chicago Bears' competitiveness, highlighting their recent playoff success under head coach Ben Johnson. He mentioned the growth of quarterback Caleb Williams and the Bears' offensive talent, suggesting that they will also be a formidable contender in the division.
