College Coaches Predict Thomas Haugh as Top Player for 2026-27 Season
In a recent survey conducted by CBS Sports, college basketball coaches identified Thomas Haugh as the leading candidate for the national player of the year for the 2026-27 season. The survey involved nearly 100 Division I coaches who provided insights while remaining anonymous.
Haugh received over 40% of the votes, surpassing the percentage achieved by Cooper Flagg in previous years. He is also part of the Florida team, which is projected to win the national championship. Haugh's decision to return to college for a fourth season, reportedly for a financial package between $8 to $10 million, reflects the changing landscape of college basketball influenced by NIL and revenue-sharing.
Jeremy Fears from Michigan State and Tyler Tanner from Vanderbilt followed Haugh in the poll results. Despite suffering a torn ACL, Texas Tech's JT Toppin remains a notable contender, with coaches believing in his potential impact. Freshman Tyran Stokes from Kansas, the top-ranked prospect for the Class of 2026, also received votes but faces stiff competition from more seasoned players.
