Colnago Launches G5-X Gravel Bike with Enhanced Stability Features
The Colnago G5-X gravel bike has been launched, showcasing a significant shift from its predecessor, the G4-X. This new model emphasizes a long, low, and stable geometry, moving away from the cyclocross influences of earlier designs.
Key changes include an increased bottom bracket drop to enhance stability, with the G5-X featuring an 80mm drop on smaller sizes and 77.5mm on larger frames. The chainstays have been extended from 430mm to 435mm, and the head tube angle has been slackened to 71.0°, contributing to improved handling on rough terrain.
While the G5-X offers a maximum tire clearance of 53mm, which is less than the emerging standard of 57mm, Colnago believes this size is sufficient for various gravel races. The bike also includes integrated downtube storage and multiple mounting points for carrying gear, catering to the needs of ultra-endurance events. Additionally, it features Fidlock Twist mounts for easier bottle access and a new round 27.2mm seatpost for improved compliance.
