Colt Emerson to Undergo Season-Ending Wrist Surgery

Colt Emerson, an infielder for the Seattle Mariners, is set to undergo surgery on his left wrist, which will conclude his 2026 season. The news was reported by Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, indicating that Emerson is anticipated to be ready for spring training next year.

Emerson, who has had a challenging season, was initially regarded as a top prospect and signed an eight-year, $95 million extension with the Mariners in March. However, he struggled in his first 69 major league games, posting a .190 batting average with a high strikeout rate. He was placed on the injured list due to wrist tendon inflammation after previously receiving a cortisone injection while in the minors.

With Emerson out, the Mariners are looking for alternatives at shortstop as they remain in contention for the division title. J.P. Crawford, who was moved to third base to make room for Emerson, is also on the injured list with similar wrist issues. In the interim, Brock Rodden and Leo Rivas are filling in, although their performance has been inconsistent as the team fights for a playoff spot.
