Colton Herta Falls Short of FIA Super License After Mexico Practice
Colton Herta is still one point away from obtaining the FIA super license necessary to compete in Formula 1 following his practice session in Mexico City, which highlighted an error in his eligibility calculation.
Cadillac had anticipated that Herta's performance during the session would bring him to the required 40 points, but he concluded with only 39, necessitating another qualifying practice run. This session marked Herta's fifth FP1 appearance this season, but he did not complete the minimum distance required to earn a point due to a short outing at Monza.
Herta's previous three seasons in IndyCar have contributed 35 points to his total, and the four eligible practice sessions have brought him to 39. A subsequent outing in Brazil is planned, where completing the necessary distance could help him reach the points threshold, although this would not guarantee a race seat with Cadillac or confirm his license issuance by the FIA.
