Colts Activate Alec Pierce from PUP List Ahead of Season Opener

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce has been activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as of August 27, 2026, following recovery from ankle surgery performed in late March. This decision allows him to participate in team practices ahead of the regular season.

Pierce had been sidelined for five months due to a lingering ankle issue that began in late 2024, despite a successful 2025 season where he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards. His recovery included attempts to avoid surgery, but ultimately, medical staff recommended a clean-up procedure to prevent further complications.

Having recently signed a four-year, $114 million contract extension, Pierce is now positioned as the primary wide receiver for the Colts after the team traded Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Colts head coach Shane Steichen plans to gradually increase Pierce's practice workload as the team prepares for their season opener against the Ravens on September 13.
