Colts' Kicking Competition Tightens Ahead of Roster Cuts

The Indianapolis Colts are facing a competitive kicking situation as Blake Grupe and Spencer Shrader vie for the starting position ahead of the upcoming roster cuts. Last season, Shrader began as the kicker but was replaced by Grupe due to an injury.

As the deadline approaches, both kickers have shown their abilities, with Grupe performing slightly better in training camp, while Shrader excelled in the preseason, notably making a 61-yard field goal against the Patriots and two long kicks against the Falcons. Grupe, however, missed a 36-yard attempt in the same game.

Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason emphasized the importance of performance under game conditions and indicated that both kickers will face high-pressure scenarios in practice this week. The decision on who will kick for the Colts in the regular season must be finalized by Sunday.
