Colts Likely to Retain Quarterback Anthony Richardson for 2026 Season
The Indianapolis Colts are increasingly expected to retain quarterback Anthony Richardson for the 2026 NFL season, with no trade likely to materialize.
Colts assistant manager Ed Dodds emphasized the importance of quarterback depth, indicating the team aims to have three capable quarterbacks on the roster, which may include Richardson. The Colts selected him as the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to address their ongoing quarterback challenges.
Despite Richardson's potential, including strong running ability and a powerful arm, he has faced health issues and inconsistencies in his performance. Following the emergence of veteran quarterback Daniel Jones, who secured a contract extension after a successful season, Richardson requested a trade earlier this year. However, he has maintained a professional attitude and reported to training camp, which aligns with the Colts' need for stability at the quarterback position.
