Colts Name Anthony Richardson as Starting QB for Preseason Finale Against Lions
The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed that Anthony Richardson Sr. will start in their preseason finale against the Detroit Lions on August 29, suggesting he has the edge over Riley Leonard for the backup quarterback position.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen indicated that Richardson will play the first quarter, with some starters on the field for 8-12 plays, before Leonard takes over in the second quarter. Easton Stick is expected to handle the remaining snaps.
In previous preseason games, Richardson had mixed performances, throwing for 145 yards and rushing for a touchdown against the New England Patriots, while struggling against the Atlanta Falcons. The decision comes as starting quarterback Daniel Jones continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon, making Richardson likely to be the primary backup for the upcoming season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13.
