Colts Owner Reluctant to Trade Jonathan Taylor Despite Recent Moves
Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon has expressed a desire to retain star running back Jonathan Taylor as the NFL trade deadline approaches on November 10. This comes after the team traded eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on Tuesday.
Analysts from ESPN noted that trading Taylor is not straightforward, as he is not an impending free agent like Buckner and Nelson. Taylor's contract, signed earlier this summer, allows for potential retention through 2028, but it also presents a tradeable scenario for interested teams.
The Colts would incur $10 million in dead money next year if Taylor is traded, while the acquiring team would need to manage his remaining salary and bonuses for the current season. Teams such as the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, and Cincinnati Bengals, all with winning records, could benefit from Taylor's skills, but the Colts are not inclined to sell him at a low price, especially if their record worsens by November 8.
