Colts Still Deciding on Backup Quarterback
The Indianapolis Colts have not finalized their choice for the backup quarterback position behind Daniel Jones for the upcoming season. The competition between Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson is ongoing as the preseason progresses.
Coach Shane Steichen indicated that there is no set timeline for the decision, emphasizing that both players will have opportunities to showcase their skills in the remaining preseason games and practices. Leonard, a sixth-round pick in 2025, will lead the second-team offense in the first half of the upcoming game, while Richardson, a first-round pick in 2023, will play with the third team during the second half.
Jones is not anticipated to participate in the preseason, allowing Leonard and Richardson another chance to compete for the backup role. Steichen noted that both quarterbacks have shown promise during training camp, despite some inconsistencies.
