Commanders Appoint Steve Wilks for Game Planning Duties

The Washington Commanders have hired Steve Wilks, a seasoned defensive coach, to assist with game planning during the week.

Wilks will collaborate with the team's coaching staff, including head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Daronte Jones. He will be present at the facility from Sundays until after practice on Wednesdays. This hiring was planned prior to the season and is not a reaction to recent events, with Wilks officially starting his role last week.

Previously, Wilks served as the defensive coordinator for the Jets last season before being let go in December. He also held the position of defensive coordinator for the 49ers in 2023, contributing to the team's Super Bowl run, and acted as the interim head coach for the Panthers in the previous year, achieving a 6-6 record.
