Commanders Promote Byron Cowart from Practice Squad
The Commanders have announced the elevation of defensive tackle Byron Cowart from their practice squad for Week 8 of the NFL season.
Cowart, who is 30 years old, was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Patriots after playing at Maryland. Following his release from New England last July, he was claimed by the Colts. He later signed with the Chiefs but was released after the draft. Cowart had brief stints with the Texans and Dolphins before joining the Bears ahead of the 2024 season.
In 2025, Cowart signed a one-year deal with the Jets but was placed on injured reserve in August and released in December without playing a game. He subsequently signed with Washington before the 2026 season. So far this season, Cowart has participated in two games but has not recorded any statistics.
