Commanders Veteran D.J. Davidson Retires During Training Camp

D.J. Davidson, a defensive lineman for the Washington Commanders, has announced his retirement during training camp, marking the second retirement for the team this week after cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.

Davidson, who was drafted by the New York Giants in 2022, joined the Commanders in the spring to compete for a spot on the defensive line. His retirement may allow Deatrich Wise to secure a position on the 53-man roster once activated from the PUP list.

Head coach Dan Quinn expressed his desire for increased competition, particularly on the offensive line, as the team added three new offensive linemen to the roster. Quinn emphasized the importance of competition and stated that the recent moves were not injury-related but aimed at enhancing the team's depth.
