Concerns Raised Over Unregistered Children's Homes in Liverpool

Recent data indicates that 14 young individuals in Liverpool are residing in unregistered children's homes, which operate without regulatory oversight. This situation poses significant risks as these homes lack the assurance of safe and suitable care for the children placed there.

In England, all children's homes are required to register with Ofsted, and operating an unregistered home is illegal. The issue has gained attention ahead of a Liverpool City Council scrutiny committee meeting, which aims to address the prevalence of such homes. The latest figures show that these unregistered settings are primarily located in the northern parts of the city.

In response to the growing concern, Councillor Liam Robinson has reached out to the government to highlight the issue. The local authority has reported that there have been nine instances of children being placed in unregistered homes from outside the area. Ofsted has also indicated that councils placing children in these homes may face downgraded performance ratings.
