However, discussions between Gonzalez's representatives and the team have not progressed, leading to uncertainty about whether an extension will be finalized before the next season. NFL insider Ian Rapoport indicated that while there is hope for a new deal, it may not materialize this offseason, suggesting that Gonzalez could wait until next year.

Entering the fourth year of his rookie contract, Gonzalez is expected to have his fifth-year option picked up, which would be valued at over $18 million. The situation is compounded by the fact that fellow cornerback Devon Witherspoon, represented by the same agency, is also in a similar contract negotiation with the Seattle Seahawks.
