Contract Negotiations Stalled Between Buccaneers and Vita Vea
Vita Vea, defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is facing a contract standoff as he approaches the final season of a four-year, $71 million extension signed in 2022. Reports indicate that while NFL insider Adam Schefter believes the Buccaneers are not considering a trade, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggests that discussions for a contract extension have not progressed.
Vea has not participated in summer practices due to a back issue sustained during training camp. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht previously stated there are no plans to trade Vea, despite speculation linking him to teams like the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Chicago Bears. Head coach Todd Bowles mentioned that discussions regarding Vea's status would likely take place next week.
The Buccaneers are set to begin their regular season against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 13, and while Schefter anticipates Vea will remain with the team, negotiations may extend into September.
