Controversial Changes Mark Opening Day of Bathurst 1000 Practice
On the opening day of practice for the Bathurst 1000 in New South Wales, Ford and Chevrolet teams experienced a controversial start, sharing honors on the track.
Late adjustments were made to the Ford Mustangs, which included increasing the air restrictor size and modifying camshaft timing, following assessments that indicated a horsepower loss at altitude. These changes were communicated to the teams just hours before practice began, leading to criticism from Team 18's manager.
During the practice sessions, Kai Allen led the first session in a Ford Mustang, while Lochie Dalton closely followed in a Chevrolet Camaro during the second session. Meanwhile, the Toyota teams faced challenges, with their GR Supra struggling to make an impact in the field. The teams will continue with additional practice and qualifying sessions scheduled for Friday.
