Cooper Rush Set to Start for Falcons After Tua Tagovailoa's Injury
Cooper Rush is set to start for the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday after Tua Tagovailoa was injured during practice. Rush, who joined the Falcons in July, had limited experience with the team's starters during training camp, participating in just one series.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski acknowledged the challenges faced by backup quarterbacks, noting that while it is ideal to receive ample practice reps, some players succeed despite limited preparation. He emphasized Rush's experience as both a backup and a starter, which equips him to handle the situation.
Tagovailoa's injury occurred during individual drills on Thursday, and while Stefanski expressed disappointment for him, he expects Tagovailoa to support Rush. Additionally, rookie Michael Penix Jr. is nearing readiness to play but will not be available this week, leaving undrafted rookie Jack Strand as the backup quarterback for the upcoming game against Pittsburgh.
