The challenge comes shortly after Copeland and Cage defended their titles against Matt and Nick Jackson at AEW All In: London 2026. During the show, the Young Bucks confronted the champions, but instead of facing Copeland and Cage, they encountered FTR, who had just returned. Following a heated exchange, Copeland proposed the TLC match, hinting at the involvement of tables, ladders, and chairs.

This TLC match marks the first confirmed bout for the All Out event, which is scheduled to take place at the Now Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, on September 26.
