Corbin Burnes Set to Return to Diamondbacks on Tuesday

Corbin Burnes, a right-handed pitcher for the Diamondbacks, is anticipated to return to the team early next week, as indicated by manager Torey Lovullo. Burnes has been sidelined since June 2025 due to Tommy John surgery and a subsequent teres major strain.

Burnes is scheduled to start on Tuesday, with plans for him to throw approximately 60 pitches. He initially signed a six-year, $210 million contract with Arizona before the 2025 season and had a strong start with a 2.66 ERA in his first 11 games. Following his surgery, he aimed to return by the All-Star Break, but his recovery was delayed.

The Diamondbacks currently hold a 74-67 record and are vying for the final NL Wild Card spot. Burnes' return is expected to bolster a rotation that has struggled this season, particularly with Merrill Kelly's ongoing difficulties. His contract includes a player opt-out after this season, but given his time away from the mound, it is unlikely he will opt out.
