Corbin Burnes to Remain with Diamondbacks, Not Opting Out of Contract
Corbin Burnes has decided not to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, as reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today. He is set to earn $35 million annually through the 2030 season, with $11 million deferred each year.
Burnes signed a six-year, $210 million contract with the Diamondbacks in December 2024. His agent indicated that Burnes declined larger offers from other teams due to his family's residence in Scottsdale. Unfortunately, the first two years of his contract have been marred by injuries, including Tommy John surgery and a teres major strain, which limited him to just three starts in 2026.
Despite his struggles, Burnes, a former Cy Young award winner, will return to the Diamondbacks' rotation in 2027, hoping for improved performance. He may face workload restrictions due to his recent injuries. The team is also exploring options to strengthen their pitching staff, including a potential reunion with Michael Soroka.
