Cormier Defends Nurmagomedov After Cage Incident at UFC Shanghai
Daniel Cormier has come to the defense of Usman Nurmagomedov after an incident at UFC Shanghai where Usman jumped into the cage following his brother Umar's knockout loss to Song Yadong.
Usman vaulted the cage moments after Song celebrated his victory, appearing to throw a spinning elbow in Song's direction, although no contact occurred. Cormier addressed the situation on his YouTube channel, stating that Usman did not attempt to strike Song and dismissed conspiracy theories surrounding the event.
While acknowledging that Usman breached protocol by entering the cage, Cormier expressed understanding of Usman's emotional reaction as a brother. He noted that UFC officials have strict rules regarding cage entries, particularly after past incidents like the Khabib Nurmagomedov-Conor McGregor brawl. Despite the breach, Cormier felt Usman's actions were justifiable given the circumstances. Following the fight, Song celebrated without further incident and later showed respect to Khabib and his team. The UFC has not yet announced any disciplinary measures against Usman, who is currently negotiating with the PFL.
